remember the time i said about how things backfire?! well, this time it climbed a whole new level as my lappy screwed up right the day before my project review. don’t be sorry, i deserve it! like barney once said,”even the greatest shooter often shoots his on own foot!”, it seems i have now joined the streak of the shooters who shot their own foot!
i was just “playing” around in the command prompt when some wrong stroke of a key changed the windows administrator password and locked the computer away. the sad part is that i realized this only after i logged off, too late! i made some calls to hp customer support which din’t help. as suggested by a faculty, i went to the center for technical support at VIT. now, they could not help me but they really impressed me with their equipment and expertize. it was then when i wore a pale face as they were taking turns in examining the situation. since i never created a reset disk or took a backup or maintained a higher administrative account, there was absolutely no way my lappy could be reset without losing the installed data.
at last, i went to this guy at the computer store just outside the campus. he managed to extract all the data out of hard disks and format the computer. i had to lose all the installed software and mainly the installed project i am working on for this final semester. the fact that i recovered the precious How I Met Your Mother episodes actually helps a little! re-installing the project would take some time. i somehow managed this review with the little chunks of source code i had. we have the final review in about a week’s time. let’s see if its enough time to pull things back together.
meanwhile, to all those who are reading this now, i seriously advise, create a password reset disk and save it before you close this page!!
